"

When looking for a search partner throughout my career I have found it essential to identify a firm that invests a considerable amount of time up front, not only to ensure they fully understand the technical aspects of the role, but equally important is to ensure they develop an understanding of the culture of the firm they are hiring for. It is only when time is invested up front in getting to know their client in this holistic way that they can identify a strong pool of potential candidates that are not only the right fit from an academic and experience standpoint, but also are ideally aligned from a cultural standpoint.

This approach has served me well in the past when hiring top talent and saves the valuable time of our interview panels. Capital Search demonstrates this approach during their searches which is further underpinned by their in deep industry knowledge as ex practitioners, and it is for this reason that I am delighted to serve on their International Advisory Board

I have built several times in my career very successful multi-cultural leadership teams, that have been transformational in business. And I have learnt a few things along the way both from mistakes and successes. I have developed specific views on hiring. Hire the best that you can. And not for yesterday’s or today’s situation, but for the future. I have always hired for attitude not skill. You can teach skill but not attitude. I look for natural curiosity. I look for resilience. I look for creativity. I look for a team player. I look for strength of character. Not arrogance. I look for future leaders who aren’t afraid to fail but the keep trying, and then trying again. No one knows how the future evolves and therefore you need to build layers of strong men and women that are versatile and that are team players. They are the future leaders. Very few Executive search firms “get it”. Charles and Giles do. It is obvious that different organisations will have different cultures. And that those cultures will also evolve. The role that these leaders will play in every team will also be very dynamic. Charles and Giles can create strategic value for your organisation by understanding these issues and working with you on them.
